Comparable to the Lions last Sunday versus the Vikings, Seaholm fell short again to Harrison. Viewers and players alike aren’t surprised by this, as Harrison is an undefeated team.
The expectations of the coaches were low. Players said the coaches weren’t expecting to even score a point. To everyone’s surprise, the Maples led Harrison into the fourth quarter with 21 points, but then crumbled to a 42-21 loss.
0-3 is a rough way to start a season no matter what, but after last year’s dismal one victory, the fans and players alike expected something different. Again it was bad luck combined with many other on the field problems.
Nearly mid way through the season, all it takes is one game to change everything. That game may be the Homecoming game Adams, a victory against our high ranked rivals could boost this talented team to a winning record. Maybe the team needs a Rudy or a Vince Papale, but nonetheless, confidence is still in the team, but running out quickly.
Unlike the football team, the girls varsity golf team is looking to repeat their state championship. As their regular season wraps up on the 30th against Groves, players are confident in a very possible repeat.
Coach Leon Braisted has lead these girls far into the state championships many times and nothing less is expected than a run for a consecutive state title.
In the rough waters of the pool, boys varsity water polo started the season off steadily with a few quick victories and multiple losses to Walled Lake.
With former Seaholm player Brad Sweeney as the new assistant coach, the team is expecting a strong season and contending for districts. Many players feel they are even stronger than last year’s winning team and predicting that they will be hosting the state championships here at Seaholm.
They boy’s varsity soccer team is bending it like Beckham and playing strongly even after the honor of being moved to division one play. Although the boys lost early, they are due to start racking up victories and be strong contenders.
Three reasons to have hope in the girls cross country team are the Freshman Wilberding triplets. With phenomenal endurance and incredible speed the Wilberding’s are performing well.
To even put more confidence into the team, senior Alex Matthews is returning from a stress fracture and looking to come back strongly at the Old Skool Classic Friday, September 26.
From running to running the court, girls volleyball is destroying opponents on the court and taking over the district. After a recent victory over Groves, the youth led team is looking to keep high hopes and high scores.
Like many of the teams above, confidence is thriving through Seaholm’s plethora of teams and high student expectations. Seaholm sports is looking to bring home titles and etch their legacy into the athletics history.
