Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Review

The sequel to the most successful first person shooter of all time is finally here. In just the first week Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.2 million copies.

Call of Duty 4: Modern WarfareWith a mind-boggling post apocalyptic single player, mode a revamped multiplayer and online mode, and the new uniquely engaging specials ops mode, Infinity Ward has done it again with this massive gaming franchise.

The campaign of the game at times can seem very glamorous and extreme at times with missions ranging from an invasion of Washington D.C. to the defense of the International Space Station.

Controversy has been raised about the mission taking place at the airport, in which you are a terrorist shooting down innocent civilians. Many people see it as unnecessary part of the game. In any case, the mission serves as an another compelling scene to play for serious gamers.

All these different types of outrageous missions the actual storyline of the game can at times seems less genuine.

The overall length of the campaign is also very short with the game lasting only about 5 hours when played straight through. Overall, the campaign can be considered the least impressive feature for the game.

Multiplayer and online mode, like the original Modern Warfare, makes this sequel the game it is. Stunning graphics, dozens of new customizable features like custom kill streaks, and an impressive array of maps will keep you hooked to the game for hours at a time. Even better news is all those little glitches from the original have now been fixed so now gaming can be worry free. New features like point specific kills, dozens of weapon attachments and upgrades make the online mode even more rewarding.

Modern Warfare 2’s newest game mode, Special Ops, is a great feature to the game. The game mode is Infinity Ward’s take on a cooperative mode, and uses many of the missions from the actual campaign as short and engaging team based levels.

The game itself game should be considered a great follow-up to the original, but lacks anything substantially creative. Rather than create another revolutionary first person shooter, Infinity Ward merely made an enhanced version of the original. Nonetheless, Modern Warfare 2 is destined to become make another remarkable first person shooter.

Mature, 3 stars, $60, Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Available at Game Stop
